The Western Publications Association has honored PhotoMedia magazine with a 2011 Maggie Award in the category of Best Single Editorial Photograph in a Trade Magazine.

The winning photo, of an anglerfish, was taken by Mark Laita and accompanied a profile on him in the Fall 2010 issue of PhotoMedia. The winner was announced on April 29 at the Maggie Awards Banquet in Los Angeles.

PhotoMedia was also nominated in three other categories: Best 3X/Year Trade or Consumer Magazine (for the Fall 2010 issue), Best Interview or Profile/Trade (for “Louie Psihoyos: Weapon of Mass Construction,” Roger Ressmeyer’s profile of PhotoMedia’s 2010 Person of the Year, also in the Fall 2010 issue) and Best Series of Editorial Photographs/Trade (for the photos in the Mark Laita profile). This year’s four nominations were just one shy of PhotoMedia’s record five nominations in 2009.

PhotoMedia has now won a total of seven Maggie Awards out of 27 nominations in the last 12 years. Other wins were for Best Semi-Annual or 3X/Year Trade Publication in 2010, Best Tabloid/Trade in 2004 and 2007, Best Cover/Trade in 2003, Best Interview or Profile/Trade in 2000 and Best Single Editorial Enhanced Photograph/Trade in 2007.

Now in their 60th year, the Maggie Awards, which honor magazine and electronic publishing excellence, are among the most prestigious and coveted industry awards for American publications operating west of the Mississippi River.
