Olympus has introduced its newest digital SLR, the 13.4-ounce E-420. The 10-megapixel compact DSLR seeks to offer users the power of a DSLR but the ease of use of point-and-shoot cameras.

The E-420 processes images using the Olympus TruePic III Image Processor for clearer photos with low noise. It is built to shoot up to 3.5 frames per second in sequenced shooting mode. The Dust Reduction System includes the Supersonic Wave Filter, which vibrates to remove dust from the front of the image sensor.

Olympus' Live View technologies and a 2.7-inch LCD with HyperCrystal II allow the user greater functionality with the E-420. The On-Screen Autofocus, Face Detection, Shadow Adjustment and Perfect Shot Preview technologies are included in the Live View experience, allowing the photographer to use the LCD as a viewfinder.

The Olympus E-420 accepts CompactFlash (types I and II), Microdrives and xD-Picture Cards, and also has wireless flash capabilities. The camera comes with Olympus' Master 2 Software. The E-420 body has an estimated street price of $499; the E-420, with an ED 14-42mm f3.5/5.6 Zuiko digital zoom lens, is priced at $599; and the E-420, with an ED 25mm f2.8 Zuiko digital lens, costs $699.
