Thomas Frank Martin, a Seattle-based photographer known in the Pacific Northwest region for his large-format printmaking, passed away in December.

On the forefront of technology in the digital print age, Martin's store, Western Photographics, was one of the first companies in Seattle to offer digital scanning and printing services. Throughout his career, he was always looking at developing new markets and processes that crossed over between the commercial use of technology and fine-art applications.

Martin also worked with the Library of Congress – specifically the Geography and Maps Department, among others – to facilitate and advise the National Digital Library regarding the digital documentation, capture, storage, online viewing and printing of images in the library's collection. In his free time, Martin also enjoyed sailing and model boat building.
