The North American Nature Photography Association has announced its award recipients for 2005. Tui de Roy has been named the 2005 Outstanding Photographer of the Year, the association's highest accolade.
A Belgian native who moved to the Galapagos Islands at the age of two, Roy first showcased her work in Audubon magazine, and since has appeared in nature magazines in 25 countries. She also has published two books about the islands.
Lifetime Achievement Awards also will be bestowed upon Clyde Butcher, a large-format, black-and-white photographer, and John Sexton, in recognition of his 30-year career in black-and-white photography.
The awards will be presented at NANPA's annual summit, to be held Jan. 19-23, 2005, in Charlotte, N.C. Sexton is the scheduled keynote speaker for that event.
Additionally, NANPA feted its 2004 Outstanding Photographer of the Year, Norbert Wu at their 2004 summit, held this January in Portland, Ore. Wu, an underwater photographer and filmmaker from Pacific Grove, Calif., has written and photographed 15 books on wildlife and photography, as well as several children's books on the oceans. His films about Antarctica's underwater world can be seen on the "Nature" television series on PBS.
