After 7 years, we catch up with our past Photography Person of the Year award-winner, Rich Clarkson, to see how his career has progressed.

Sports photographer Rich Clarkson has continued to expand his business. "The shifts ... have been towards multi-delivery of our work," Clarkson says. "Video production is part of this and we have added to our staff of 10 people versed in that field, in addition to still photography and the resulting multimedia productions."

Two of Clarkson's productions in the last year — one for Denver International Airport and another for his Sports Photography Workshop — won the top award in the Telly Awards for outstanding cable TV ads. He has also won an AVA award for "The Story of Kirk Williams," a documentary detailing the amazing resilience of a young athlete after a crippling accident.

"We still do all the championship photography for the NCAA — 89 championships a year across the country — and, among the other clients, continue to do all the photography and projects for the Colorado Rockies major league baseball team," Clarkson says.

Clarkson's recent projects include current and historic pictures of Hayward Field, the famed track-and-field stadium at the University of Oregon. In 2006 he produced a book for the NCAA to celebrate its 100th anniversary, containing pictures from the many Final Four tournaments he's covered since 1953. He also produced a book and exhibition for Arlington National Cemetery in 2007. Currently, Clarkson is producing an exhibition called "The Great Photographs of the American West" to open on the same day in October at 10 western-themed museums across the country, with an attendant 300-page book for National Geographic Books.
