Nikon has released two new CoolPix compact cameras, the P510 and the P310.

With the P510, Nikon focused on the zoom features. The camera houses a 42x optical Zoom-Nikkor ED glass lens that can shoot from a wide 24mm to a 1,000mm focal range.

Nikon strove to boost low-light shooting capabilities with the P310, giving it a 16.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, an ISO range up to 3200 and a maximum f/1.8 aperture.

The night mode has also been improved with this model. Now, when taking night shots, the P510 combines a series of consecutive shots taken at a fast shutter speed into a single image with reduced noise.

Both cameras have 16.1-megapixel resolution and a 3-inch screen and can shoot 1080p HD video, although the 310 can shoot only HD at 30 fps. The 510 also has a rotating monitor, while the 310's monitor is stationary.

The CoolPix P510 also includes full 1080p HD movie recording (at 30 fps) with stereo sound and the ability to utilize the zoom feature while recording. A 3-inch vari-angle monitor makes it easy to compose.

The CoolPix P510 sells for $429 and comes in black or red. The CoolPix P310 comes in black for $329.
