Samsung has introduced the NX series of hybrid cameras, which offer the quality of a DSLR and the portability of a point-and-shoot camera.

Like a DSLR, the NX has a large, APS-C-sized image sensor to produce high-quality images. Unlike a DSLR, which traditionally uses box mirrors, the NX uses an electric viewfinder (EVF), as does a point-and-shoot. With the EVF, Samsung was able to decrease the distance between the lens and image sensor (flange back) by 60 percent when compared to traditional DSLR cameras.

Also like a point-and-shoot, the NX series features a high-resolution Live View screen and uses contrast-detection autofocus.

The first model of the NX Series will be released in the second half of 2009, with a price to be announced.
