Canon has announced its new line of five Vixia high-definition camcorders and six standard-definition camcorders that are available in a variety of different recording formats.

The five Vixia camcorders feature Canon's core technologies: a Genuine Canon HD video lens, an HD CMOS image sensor for full HD image capture, and Digic DV II and III image processors. The face-detection technology used in Canon digital cameras is now available in Canon Vixia HD camcorders.

The Vixia HF S10, S100, HF20 and HF200 HD camcorders all record on Flash memory. The HF S10 and HF20 offer the option of recording video to a 32GB internal Flash drive or directly to an SDHC memory card, while the HF S100 and HF200 record to an SDHC memory card only.

Both the HF S10 and HF S100 feature an 8.59-megapixel full-HD CMOS image sensor, capable of producing 8-megapixel still images, while the more compact HF20 and HF200 feature a 3.89-megapixel full-HD CMOS image sensor, a newly designed genuine Canon 15x HD video lens, an advanced auto exposure system, and Video Snapshot and Dual Shot modes.

The Vixia HV40 HDV camcorder replaces the HV30 and offers a Canon 10x HD video lens and 2.96-megapixel full-HD CMOS image sensor. It also allows users to record in Native 24p mode, the highest bit rate available in AVCHD.

Canon's new standard-definition line includes the FS22, FS21 and FS200 Flash Memory camcorders, the DC420 and DC410 DVD camcorders, and the ZR960 MiniDV camcorder.

The new FS22, FS21 and FS200 are up to 17 percent smaller than previous FS series models. The FS22 and FS21 feature a 48x advanced zoom, incorporate 32GB and 16GB of internal Flash memory, respectively, and can record video directly to an SDHC memory card. The FS200 records directly to an SDHC memory card and comes in three colors: misty silver, sunrise red and evening blue.

The DC420 and DC410 offer 48x and 41x advanced zooms, respectively. Both feature the Digic DV II image processor and wide-screen recording. The ZR960 records onto MiniDV and provides a 41x advanced zoom.

The minimum advertised price for Canon's Vixia HF S10 is $1,299; the HF S100 is $1,099; the HF20 is $899; the HF200 is $749; the HG21 is $1,299; the HG 20 is $899; and the HV40 is $999.
