Canon has released three new 35x optical zoom camcorder models: the DC230, DC220 and DC210. The trio introduces Canon's longest optical zoom on a camcorder to date, with a 35X optical zoom lens (1,000x digital zoom). The camcorders combine the convenience, versatility and broad capability of DVD recording and playback.

Strategically placed controls allow for one-handed use, and the smooth contours of the model make for a comfortable fit in the user's palm. The quick-start and standby modes make sure that the camcorder is ready for action in less than a second and simultaneously power up the large 2.7-inch-wide, 16:9 format, 123,000-pixel LCD.

Canon designed the camcorders to have DIGIC DV II signal processing technology to ensure optimal image quality and improved color reproduction in both video and still photos. The three models also have hybrid noise reduction systems and accept 3-inch DVD-R/-RW discs, which store up to 60 minutes of video. The DVD-R format ensures compatibility with a wide range of DVD players.

The DC210 DVD camcorder features a 35x optical/1,000x digital zoom, image stabilization and a 2.7-inch wide-screen LCD. The DC220 model includes a 9-point AiAF autofocus and miniSD mem- ory card slot, which holds images in high 1,024 x 768 resolutions. It also offers USB 2.0 high-speed capability, PictBridge, and Canon's Digital Video Solutions disc for Windows and Macintosh.

The last model in the trio, the DC230, offers the advantages of the DC220 model with additional 1.07-megapixel CCD image sensors capable of recording video and still images in high resolution (1,152 x 864) to a miniSD card. All three camcorders have a level marker and a new grid marker added to the easy mode feature mix.

The DC210 and DC220 sell for $399 and $449, respectively, while the DC230 sells for $499.
