Patrick Bennett's New Washington Travel Photos

Traveling 8,000 miles throughout Washington state in the summer and fall of 2010, Seattle-based location photographer Patrick Bennett shot a series of images to promote tourism and travel in the region.

These photos, which will be used for periodicals such as the Washington Wine Tour Guide,, Washington Scenic Byways and the Washington State Travel Planner, feature images of local and international travelers exploring the state while rock climbing, parasailing, rodeo riding, beachcombing, fishing, hiking and wine tasting.

Images for all three publications will be available in the first part of 2011.

Bruce Barnbaum's 'The Art of Photography' Released

Northwestern landscape photographer Bruce Barnbaum's "The Art of Photography," a 348-page, 150 full-color photobook on photographic composition for both film and digital imagery, hit the art-store shelves in September 2010, selling all 5,000 copies in its first month of publication.

Last year, Barnbaum also taught two photography workshops at a worldwide water policy issues conference in Patagonia, Argentina. Seven of his new destination workshops are scheduled for 2011.

Greg Vaughn's "Photographing Oregon" Named Best Travel Book of the Year by IBPA

"Photographing Oregon," a guidebook by Eugene, Ore.-based photographer and writer Greg Vaughn, was named best travel book of the year by the Independent Book Publishers Association.

Vaughn's travel guide, published by PhotoTrip USA, describes not only ideal locations from which to photograph Oregon's iconic sites, but also ideal times to be there and what settings to use for shooting each image.

Similar to PhotoTrip USA's "Photographing the Southwest" series, this Oregon photo guide contains more than 240 photos and details on all the major parks and landmarks.

Jim Martin's "Planet Ice" Wins Gold Medal

Seattle photographer James Martin won the gold medal in the "Most Likely to Save the Planet" category at the 2010 Independent Publishers Book Awards for his two-year project, "Planet Ice," capturing the beauty of ice around the world. His winning photos, taken from the poles to the equator, document the retreat of ice in the face of climate change.

Brian Lawler Receives Educator of the Year for Higher Education from EDSF

Photographer and professor Brian Lawler received the Educator of the Year for Higher Education award from the Electronic Document Systems Foundation.

Lawler won this award for his 30 years in the photography, typography and prepress industries. His other work has included consulting for Kodak, Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Adobe Systems, Epson and Nikon. He has also written articles for WhatTheyThink.com and Graphic Arts Monthly.

Michael Craft Named Official Photogapher for LeMay

Seattle-based commercial photography studio Michael Craft Photography was recently named the official photographer for LeMay — America's Car Museum, in Tacoma, Wash.

Michael Craft will be providing photography services and will contribute to the museum's quarterly publication, Open Road magazine, as well as its website and brochures. The studio will also provide consulting for special publication projects, exhibits and educational outreach programs that involve photography.

David Bram Wins Griffin Museum of Photography Focus Award

The Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, Mass., has named the recipients of its annual Focus Awards. One of this year's winners is Albuquerque-based David Bram, founder of Fraction magazine.

Bram received the Rising Star award, which is given each year to emerging contributors in the photography community. His online publication focuses on alternatives to physical galleries and predominantly features the work of new artists.
