The Olympus E-P1, the smallest digital camera in the PEN line, offers 12.3-megapixel resolution, HD video and stereo audio capabilities, and interchangeable lens options – all without the bulk of the optical viewfinder and mirror box.

Only 4.75 x 2.75 x 1.43 inches in size and weighing just 11.8 ounces, the E-P1 uses either a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 or a 17mm f2.8 four-thirds lens. Images can be easily viewed after shooting on a 3-inch Hyper crystal LCD screen visible up to a 176-degree angle.

Since photojournalism was the basis for my photographic experience, our biennial revisit to the subject is perhaps my favorite issue to research, as it allows me to return to my roots.

As history unfolds, there’s always something interesting to report, and the public has an insatiable appetite for stories. Since our last issue on photojournalism, we have witnessed some big photo news stories, indeed, including Barack Obama’s ascent to the presidency, the escalation of the war in Afghanistan and the passing of Michael Jackson.

The last two years have also been a time of great uncertainty in the industry. The opportunities for making a reasonable living as a photojournalist are as questionable as ever...

Sony has released two new entry-level SLR cameras – the Alpha A500, a 12.3-megapixel camera, and the Alpha A550, a higher-resolution 14.2-megapixel camera. Both cameras feature a 3-inch LCD screen, Live View features and Auto HDR capabilities.
