Daniel Beltra Named ABC News' Person of the Week; also Featured in Prince's Rainforest Project

Seattle photographer Daniel Beltra was named ABC News' Person of the Week in November 2009 for his conservation photography of endangered regions throughout the world. Focusing on the effects of climate change on the world's rainforests in the Amazon Basin, Congo, Borneo and Sumatra, Beltra's images were recently featured as part of the Prince's Rainforests Project (rainforestsos.org), an environmental organization founded by England's Prince Charles, with offices in London, Paris, Berlin and New York City.

James Balog Receives 2009 ILCP League Award

The 2009 International League of Conservation Photographers League Award went to Boulder, Colo., photographer James Balog for his outstanding achievements in conservation photography. Balog's recent work includes his "Extreme Ice Survey," which documents the effects of climate change on glaciers around the world.

Five Portland Photographers Form PhotoForce Collective

To combat the impact of the economic downturn in the ever more competitive photography industry, five Portland-based photographers have joined together to create a collaborative assemblage known as PhotoForce (photo-force.com).

The team — consisting of Steven Scardina, Lincoln Barbour, Brian Lee, Stuart Mullenberg and Daniel Root — was established to bring "five top photographers together in one collective."

While photographing a wine festival in Yantai, China, last September, Oregon-based photographer Janis Miglavs discovered that his most recent book, "Oregon: The Taste of Wine," was one of four finalists in the Gourmand International Book Competition.

Miglavs' book, which highlights up-and-coming Oregon wines, took second place in the Best Book on New World Wine category. The book also won the Benjamin Franklin award for the best regional book in North America.
