Ben and Linda Marra Exhibit of Native American Indians Displayed at Washington State Capital Museum

In commemoration of the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition, the Washington State Capital Museum in Olympia is presenting "Faces from the Land: A Photographic Journey through Native America," by Ben and Linda Marra. The Seattle-based photographers focused on many of the Native American cultures that Lewis and Clark encountered, including Sioux, Lemhi Shoshone and Nez Perce. The exhibit includes a contemporary photograph of Sacajawea's great-great-great-niece, Rose Ann Abrahamson.

David Cobb Opens New Portland Studio

Cascades Academy Closes Its Doors

Late last year, Cascades Academy of Photography in Issaquah closed its doors after five years of operation. Owners Di Irons and Bob Iness say they were casualties of an industry-wide slump. Over the past couple of years, Iness says, enrollment in photography courses has declined, on the adult education level as well as in the community colleges.

Michael A. W. Evans, 1944-2006

Noted photographer Michael A. W. Evans, an early developer of software systems for cataloging photography collections, died of cancer on Dec. 1, 2005, at his home in Atlanta. He was 61.

The son of Canadian diplomats, Evans was born in St. Louis and spent much of his childhood abroad. His 20-year photojournalism and picture-editing career began at the Port Hope Evening Guide newspaper in Ontario, Canada, in 1959, when he was 15.

Herbert Keppler Receives IPC's Hall of Fame Award

At the International Photographic Council's New Year's luncheon, held at the United Nations, Herbert Keppler received the council's Hall of Fame Award. Keppler, vice president of Popular Photography & Imaging and American Photo magazines, was honored for his efforts to support the advancement of photography.

Anita Duncan Named ASPP's Picture Professional of the Year

Anita Duncan has been honored by the American Society of Picture Professionals as the group's third annual Picture Professional of the Year. Duncan, whose career has encompassed publishing and book design, including a stint as production manager at Marvel Comics, now works at Photo Researchers. Currently she is working on a picture book about the Murray Hill neighborhood in New York City.

Rainier, Dick's Camera Combine Experience

Earlier this year, Jonathan Stone, president of Rainier Photographic Supply, purchased Dick's Camera from Dick Dahlgard, who had owned and operated the Seattle-based business since 1969. Michael Ramey Photographs Orphans Overseas for World Association for Children and Parents

Michael Ramey, an instructor at the Art Institute of Seattle, recently completed an 18-day tour of orphanages in India, Vietnam, China and Russia, where he photographed children for the World Association for Children and Parents. The adoption agency will use the images to develop a donor DVD and a presentation for its 30th anniversary celebration, to be held in New York City in June.
