With the debut of its new S series line of Coolpix cameras, Nikon has unveiled four inaugural models: the S8200, S6200, S100 and S1200pj, all compact cameras with enhanced zoom ranges, sharing capabilities and HD video.

All four cameras include copious scene and auto modes as well as a smart portrait system, which includes in-camera red-eye fix, face-priority autofocus, smile mode, blink warning and skin softening. The S8200 and S100 will also offer easy panorama mode.

The differences: The S8200 and S6200, both 16-megapixel resolution compact ultrazooms, offer 14x and 10x optical zoom lenses, respectively. Additionally, the S8200 has full 1080p HD video and a 3-inch, backlit LCD screen and costs $329, while the S6200 has only 720p and a 2.7-inch LCD screen, but costs $100 less.

For touch-screen enthusiasts, the S100 features a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, full 1080p HD video and 3-D capabilities, and sells for $299.

The S1200pj, on the other hand, is geared toward content sharing. Images and video can be displayed via the 20-lumen, built-in projector or by syncing with Apple devices. Featuring 14.1-megapixel resolution, 5x optical zoom, HD (720p) movie capture and a 3-inch LCD screen, the S1200pj sells for $429.
